Realistic Games

Many old school gamers would tell you the same, graphics don't mean shit if the game isn't fun. Back in the old days, you really had to use your imagination to enjoy the game, due to technical limitations graphics weren't as we'd like them to be, but that didn't alter the gaming experience at all. We didn't care much about realism, natural physical responses or any of that. We loved the stories, the characters through simple text and actions and the gameplay that came along with it.

Back in the day, you really had to use your imagination while playing to get a real good gaming experience.

if you look closely you will see a time travelling red haired hero

Today it's all about the technology, you had to have good graphics to sell big games. Realistic physics, models that mimicked reality, realistic facial expressions, motion capture animation and symphonic sound track.

I was watching behind the scene photage of Call of Duty 3 and how far they're going to achieve cutting edge technology by realistically recreating the battle field. They have a weapon's expert on the team, military advisers just so that they would put real life weapons in our virtual hands. I couldn't help but wonder, is that really necessary? do i really need to have a G30 Machine guy that the army uses rather than just a  rifle and just go kill people? are the details of the weapon what makes games fun or is it the game play? I couldn't help but think that i bet that they didn't have military advisers while they were creating Doom or Wolf3D. They wanted to create a fun game and that's it, screw it if it doesn't look like real life, IT'S JUST A GAME!

Omg Historical inaccuracy!

Let's sit together 5 years from now and discuss which of these titles had a bigger impact on video game history.

The more time advances the more it seems to me like video game companies want me to use my imagination less and take what they're offering more literary.

Problem is, if this gimmick continues, you will no longer be allowed to use the term "it's just a game" to justify any shortcoming.
